Teaching computational thinking and its effects on children's executive functions

Resumen

La enseñanza del pensamiento computacional en la educación K-12, ha ganado un notorio protagonismo en los últimos años. El objetivo principal de estas iniciativas no es enseñar a programar desde la niñez, si no, fortalecer la capacidad de razonamiento, resolución de problemas y el desarrollo de los procesos cognitivos. Es por este motivo, que estudiar los efectos e impactos cognitivos que la enseñanza del pensamiento computacional tiene en los estudiantes, se ha convertido en un campo de acción con múltiples retos. Buscando aportar a este nuevo campo de estudio, esta prueba piloto evaluó el efecto de un programa de entrenamiento en pensamiento computacional sobre las funciones ejecutivas de niños en edad escolar. Los resultados mostraron que la intervención en pensamiento computacional condujo a mejoras en algunas tareas asociadas a las funciones ejecutivas de inhibición, memoria de trabajo visoespacial y planificación.
